I try to keep my camera with me all the time, just in case I should happen to see something (by that, I mean an insect) worth shooting at. Today it came in handy, as I had a customer calling in from New Jersey about the wiring in an electric guitar; I snapped a few photos and emailed them to answer his question. I also wasted some time in the afternoon mixing up some mud on a plate (well, yeah, I was making mud pies, come to think of it), trying to get a butterfly or two to land out by the parking lot. (The plate was to keep the water from evaporating too fast.) There is another wave of Painted Ladies coming through, an even thicker wave than the one we had last month, and the more of them I see, the more I want to get my own picture of one. As far as I know, however, they did not appreciate my mud pie; they just went on flying north in a most determined fashion.
I finally got a chance to use the camera just before I went home. I don't have the best setup for photographing sunsets (and my hands were shaking) but you can get some idea of the colors that were up there.
